In the backdrop of the alleged NEET paper leak, the RSS education wing Vidya Bharati has suggested that the government should explore the idea of open-book exams and prepare question banks apart from restructuring central competitive tests on the lines of IIT exams.
These suggestions among others have been sent to the K Radhakrishnan-led committee set up by government to review the functioning of the National Testing Agency (NTA).
“The way exams are conducted needs to change. The exams must focus on testing the intelligence quotient, aptitude and attitude of the examinee. Once this happens, there will be no question of leakage. When you have to write from memory, then all these problems start,” said D Ramkrushan Rao, Akhil Bharatiya Adhyaksh of Vidya Bharati.
Batting for the IIT pattern of exams, Rao said: “When you test the IQ… IITs conduct exams… it is a foolproof system because the method of testing is different. NTA is conducting so many exams. Once the testing system changes things will become better.”
A senior office bearer of the organisation said these suggestions, apart from those of building question banks and exploring the idea of open book exams, have been sent to the Radhakrishnan committee.
The Education Ministry on June 22, had announced an expert committee under Radhakrishnan to look into exam reforms and review the NTA’s functioning after irregularities were reported in the conduct of NEET-UG and UGC-NET.
Rao also said: “The NEET paper leak is unfortunate. I must not comment on it, but it is a matter of great concern. That such incidents do not push merit behind, we will do whatever it takes through our schools.”
